ON THIS DAY IN MOVIE HISTORY

On this day in movie history we lost one of the greatest film actresses the cinema has ever known. The great Joan Crawford died on this day - May 10, 1977 at the age of 71. Her reputation has been tarnished in recent years, but her talent on film has remained the same...

  1. I love Joan! I've never read that book and don't intend to, as I don't like "bashing" or negativity. My adage is, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." So, I will never know the full extent of what is said about her. My opinion of her will come from what I see on-screen---and she was amazing!

  2. Not sure I would still say Joan's reputation is been tarnished all that much - her daughter's book came out only 1 yr after Joan passed. That was 35 yrs ago - we have crops of new generations since then who will never hear of the book and won't see the crappie movie based on it either. Personally, I think Joan's work is stood the test of all the bashing about her. Plus, with the huge upswing of 'peeping Tom' reporting like there is today, I think even a larger % of people look at a lot of the tales with more than a 'grain of salt.' It's not quite the same (in most cases) as it was when Hedda Hopper could send out a blast and all but end any career. It's as it should be now so many decades have passed - it's Joan's work which she is remembered for.
