"Our" is a bit misleading. It was 1945, and I was 2 years old. So at 2 yrs old my only hosting responsibility was to be as cute as a I could be. And this, I’m guessing, brought awes and coos, funny faces and gesturing hands, and I will assume, at 78, that these were the loving ways our guests brought me joy and laughter. At some point, however, all this attention waned and I was left unattended. WHAT? 2 years old? Unattended? A pool steps away. I know. Right? Where was Mommy or Daddy? So let the waddling around begin. It abruptly ended when I fell into the pool. What followed was the quick reaction of a guest whose hand reached down and pulled me out. That hand belonged to Harry Ritz. (PS: My father would tell this story, as a setup for his closer. “It cost Harry his new gold watch, and cost me a new gold watch for Harry.”) Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07702994064308252844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-58172166418189503222019-11-13T14:37:31.949-08:002019-11-13T14:37:31.949-08:00harry ritz is just not funny now in 2019harry ritz is just not funny now in 2019Orly Taitz https://www.blogger.com/profile/04901899727980492591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-76214085730386919072019-02-04T19:56:16.555-08:002019-02-04T19:56:16.555-08:00Hi I have a printed in USA 1937 flyer photo w/sign...Hi I have a printed in USA 1937 flyer photo w/signature of the Ritz Brothers from Cecil,Pa. from the Caleffe Theatre.it says 20 th century Fox and other movie stars movie adds such as Humphrey Bogart,Ann Sheridan,Dick Powel and several others. Are there any info about value on this kind of item.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05374025674648919194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-11907010036672951022015-07-03T20:19:59.176-07:002015-07-03T20:19:59.176-07:00It would be interesting to see a write up on Tyron...It would be interesting to see a write up on Tyrone Power or Errol Flynn (if you have not covered these swashbucklers) Thank you! Second best, in my opinion, is Life at College not yet available (as far as I know) in a decently transferred dvd. And, thirdly, see then in Three Musketeers with Don Ameche and Binnie Barnes. The Ritzes play it pretty straight, and the movie is one of their best produced even though they don't have as many comedy bits as usual. Zanuck hired them to energize his Sonja Henie films and others. Al, Harry & Jimmy wanted scripts where they were part of the plot instead of an interpolated specialty act. They could sing, dance and do comedy, but except for You Can't Have Everything, The Three Musketeers and the lame Gorilla, they couldn't persuade 20thCentury/Fox. That's why they went to Universal. But Universal took on Olsen & Johnson and Abbott & Costello all about the same time. Where were good scripts going to come from with that many comedy teams needing to produce two pics a year each? The Ritzes made a couple of appearances on NBC TV (either All Star Revue of Colgate Comedy Hour) and Ed Sullivan and in a Ginger Rogers "special", but they were afraid of using up so much material (as were other comedians on TV). Nightclubs in Miami, Vegas, etc oaid them $20,000 a week, so they didn't need the TV grinding machine. PS: I love them.
