The iconic status is all about the time and place. Have seen movies and TV-shows with these actresses, nothing iconic. Many have commented about Audrey Hepburn. Watched two of her movies today, both subpar. I think she was a charismatic person and in Sabrina she was in her element. But I don't think she could hold a film, and she just never convinced me she wasn't acting, I always feel like I am watching a movie, and her lines come off as too dramatic. It's specially obvious around her female costars.

Joan Fontaine on the other hand is a great actress
In Letter from an Unknown Woman, Rebecca, Suspicious and The Women. She was so subtle and has tons of inflection in her tone of voice. I also don't see why Grace Kelly wasn't here. She would have ruined every part Hitchcock wanting her to have over Tippi Hedren. Your judgement of these actresses is based on so many comments on their looks or lack thereof, as if that's all that matters. Hepburn ugly?
Streisand's nose? Taylors beauty? Seriously? I have views of each of these actresses, negative and positive, but physical appearance is never relevant, but your essay relies heavily on your view of just that. The way you feel about her is exactly how I feel. She really wasn't as talented or as beautiful as people like to claim she was. It's just a case of the Halo Effect. I am so damn tired of this woman being seen as 'the perfect woman' and 'the epitome of grace' and that no other woman can ever measure up to her. The reason she is so hyped up is due to the media, and because she is what society wants in a woman. Well, at least she portrayed herself as what society wants in a woman, because I can assure you, she wasn't what she appeared to be. People are always bringing down other women that are compared to her. One of the great examples being Marilyn Monroe. We so easily stigmatize Marilyn for being mentally ill, for struggling with addiction, and for being a 'whore' yet Audrey was no different. Audrey also struggled with addiction, she was addicted to smoking and she was mentally ill as well. She attempted suicide twice. And she was a far worse whore than Marilyn. I say that because she put on the facade of being a good girl, yet she got involved with married men and even cheated on her husbands. Don't believe me? Look up the affair she had with William Holden. He was married and Audrey even had the nerve to go to dinner with him and his wife. Classy my ass. You people need to wake up. Why are we so quick to look down on someone like Marilyn and women in general who are unconventional, yet we dismiss what Audrey did. And why is it people are so focus on her humanity work, yet dismiss what people like Angelina, Elizabeth Taylor and so many others did for humanity? The women I just mentioned, also devoted a lot of time to charity. Why don't we value and worship them the same as Audrey? Because they are not what society wants in a woman. They are unconventional. You people, especially you women, don't realize that unless you are 100% like Audrey you will NOT be accepted by society. You WILL be looked down on if you are unconventional and sexy like Angelina and have a trouble childhood and addiction like Marilyn. It's so damn sad people only see what's on the surface and worship false saints like Audrey while people who are different will ALWAYS be stigmatized. It's no wonder I have struggled with major depression. You people will never accept someone like me either because I am not like Audrey...I am weird and I struggle with mental illness. So you will look down on me because I am not Audrey...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-12278031564166012702018-08-24T21:22:50.359-07:002018-08-24T21:22:50.359-07:00I agree with you completely.
