I think he was a depressive person.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-53351172046605739182012-12-10T21:24:54.803-08:002012-12-10T21:24:54.803-08:00Must've been weird for Abbott doing that carto...Must've been weird for Abbott doing that cartoon series where someone else voiced Costello.Delmohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10156851971491531444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-83882863366232340582012-12-10T18:04:07.903-08:002012-12-10T18:04:07.903-08:00Unfortunately, Bud Abbott's life got worse. I'll save that for a later article - too depressing during the holiday season!David Loboscohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01870831249761911028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-63979112251010684842012-12-10T17:30:15.224-08:002012-12-10T17:30:15.224-08:00A very sad tale, some of which I had heard about b...A very sad tale, some of which I had heard about before. I can't imagine the difficulty of being an actor with a narrow niche that precludes a lengthy career (Veronica Lake is another example that springs to mind). Although Abbott was underrated as a straight man, the team thrived because of Costello. THE 30 FOOT BRIDE OF CANDY ROCK wasn't very good, but showed that Costello could have had a career in kiddie pics at least.Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224037410105354251.post-83899864720413753562012-12-10T15:50:54.179-08:002012-12-10T15:50:54.179-08:00I just read that entire article. It was incredibly...I just read that entire article. It was incredibly depressing. I need to now see if I can find any information about what happened to him in the years following this. I hope he was able to achieve some financial security.

What also stood out is that, "By 1953, their peak, they were earning a fantastic $1,750.00 a year between them." Is that a typo? I take it to mean $1,750,000.00. Is that correct? If so, even today, half of that amount would be quite wonderful for anybody. If you take into account inflation, that amount would be worth 15,161,226.59 today. So, half of that would be $7,580,613.29. That is still a wonderful amount of money to earn in a year. But what stood out is how much more current stars make. A week or so ago I read that last year Britney Spears earned $58 million, Taylor Swift earned $57 million, and Katy Perry earned $45 million. So if Abbott and Costello were alive today and earning $7.5 million each, they would be at the low end of the totem pole for celebrity earners. It is mind-boggling what celebrities today can earn in a year. The stars of decades past would probably never believe it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
